Furniture & appliance disposal in Hackney
Sofas, beds, wardrobes, fridges, washing machines and electricals taken away and handled under the right waste stream.
Furniture and appliances look like one category and are actually four, each with its own route. Getting that wrong is invisible to you and is the main thing separating a registered carrier from a van with a phone number.
The four streams
- Upholstered furniture — sofas and armchairs, which have their own handling requirements
- Mattresses and divans — separated from general furniture
- Large appliances — washing machines, cookers and dishwashers as WEEE
- Refrigeration — fridges and freezers, which contain regulated gases and cannot be treated as scrap
Reuse first, where it is real
Furniture in genuinely reusable condition goes to reuse routes where one will take it. We will not claim more than that: a sofa without a fire label, or one that has been in a damp garage, is not reusable however good it looks, and pretending otherwise just moves the disposal cost somewhere else.
Flat-pack reality
Flat-pack wardrobes and beds frequently cannot be moved intact once built, and taking one apart is part of the job rather than something you should do first. Where an item was assembled in the room, say so — it changes the crew and the time, not the price list.
Where it comes from
Most of this work is a floor or two up in a converted house or a walk-up above a shop. Tell us the floor and the stair and we bring the right number of people — see flat and estate clearance.
Furniture & appliance disposal — the usual questions
Can you take a single sofa?
Yes — see also bulky waste collection for one-off items.
Do you dismantle flat-pack furniture?
Where it will not come out intact, yes. It is part of the job rather than something to do before we arrive.
Are fridges handled differently?
Yes. Refrigeration contains regulated gases and goes through a WEEE route, never with general waste or scrap.
Will my old furniture be reused?
Where it is genuinely reusable and a reuse route will take it. We would rather say that plainly than claim a reuse rate we cannot evidence.
Can you collect from an upper floor?
Yes. The floor and the stair decide the crew size, so tell us both when you ask.
House clearance
Whole houses and single rooms cleared — end-of-tenancy, probate, downsizing, or years of accumulated stuff in a back bedroom.
Flat & estate clearance
Upper-floor flats, walk-ups and estate blocks, carried down by hand where there is no lift and nowhere to park.
Bulky waste collection
Single large items or a handful of them — sofas, mattresses, wardrobes — collected when you do not want to wait for a council slot.
Garden waste clearance
Green waste, hedge cuttings, turf, soil, decking and the shed that finally gave up. Composted or recycled where it can be.
Tell us what needs clearing.
What it is, which floor it is on, and where a van can stand. That is enough for a proper quote — and the quote is what you pay, not a starting point.
