Questions, answered straight.
If something is not here, ask. A question we cannot answer plainly is usually a sign the job needs looking at properly.
Pricing, access, waste and paperwork
How is a clearance priced?
On volume, the carry — floor, stairs, lift, distance from the van — and how much separating the load needs. Not by the hour, and not on how urgent it sounds on the phone.
Is the quote what I pay?
Yes. It is agreed before we start and only changes if what is being cleared changes, in which case we tell you before it goes on the van.
Do you charge for quoting?
No. Photographs or a short video usually answer everything; for larger or more awkward jobs we will come and look.
Do you clear from upper floors?
Constantly — it is most of Hackney. Everything is carried down, which is why we ask about the floor before the volume.
What if there is no lift?
Then the stairs set the crew size. It changes the price, not whether we will do it.
Do you need a parking permit?
On most Hackney streets, yes. We either arrange a bay or work from the nearest legal point and barrow it — and we tell you which before the day.
Is this cheaper than hiring a skip?
For most household jobs yes, with no permit to apply for and nothing on the street overnight collecting other people’s waste. For a long building project a skip sometimes still wins, and we will say so.
Where does the waste go?
Sorted on the van as we load, then to the correct route for each stream. Waste transfer documentation is kept and copied to you on request.
Will my old furniture be reused?
Where it is genuinely reusable and a reuse route will take it. We will not claim a reuse rate we cannot evidence.
Can you take fridges and freezers?
Yes, handled as WEEE — refrigeration contains regulated gases and cannot be treated as scrap metal.
Can you take mattresses?
Yes. They are a separate waste stream from general furniture, which is precisely why so many are dumped instead.
Do you take plasterboard?
Yes, kept separate as the law requires. Keeping it in its own pile on site is what stops it inflating the cost of a mixed load.
What about asbestos or anything hazardous?
We stop and tell you. It needs a licensed specialist route — moving it in a general van would be illegal and unsafe.
Do I have to be there?
Not if we can get access and stand somewhere legal. Plenty of jobs run on keys with an agent or a neighbour, agreed in advance.
Can you clear a property between tenancies?
Regularly, for landlords and agents. Tell us if anything is staying; otherwise we assume the property is being cleared to empty.
Do you work weekends?
Often, and for commercial jobs out of hours is usually the better arrangement. Ask and we will tell you the soonest slot.
Do you do house removals?
No. We are a waste clearance firm — no household moves, no man-and-van work, no storage. A removals company will do that better than we would.
Will you sweep up?
Yes. The space is left brushed out. A clearance that leaves a ring of dust and screws where a wardrobe stood is not finished.
Tell us what needs clearing.
What it is, which floor it is on, and where a van can stand. That is enough for a proper quote — and the quote is what you pay, not a starting point.
