Bulky waste collection in Hackney
Single large items or a handful of them — sofas, mattresses, wardrobes — collected when you do not want to wait for a council slot.
Sometimes the whole job is one sofa. The council will take it eventually, and if you can wait for that slot you should. This is for when you cannot, or when the item will not fit through the door the way it came in.
What counts as bulky
- Sofas, armchairs and sofa beds
- Mattresses and divan bases — a separate waste stream from general furniture
- Wardrobes, chests, tables and bed frames
- Fridges, freezers, washing machines and cookers
- Garden furniture, barbecues and the occasional hot tub
Mattresses are their own problem
A mattress cannot go in with general waste — it has to be handled separately, which is exactly why so many end up in alleyways. We take them under the right stream and document it. If you are a landlord replacing several across a portfolio, say so and we will plan one run rather than five.
Fridges and freezers
These contain regulated refrigerant gases and are handled as WEEE, not as scrap metal. It means a fridge cannot simply be tipped with the rest of a kitchen, and anyone telling you otherwise is cutting a corner you will not see.
Getting it out
The commonest surprise on a single-item collection is the doorway. Sofas that were carried in before a hallway was re-plastered, or before a stair was replaced, sometimes do not come back out whole. We will say at the quote stage whether dismantling is likely rather than deciding it on your landing.
Bulky waste collection — the usual questions
Can you take just one item?
Yes. A single sofa or mattress is an ordinary job, and it is priced as one rather than as a minimum load.
Do I have to bring it downstairs?
No. Tell us the floor and we will bring the crew for it.
Can you take a fridge or freezer?
Yes, handled as WEEE under the correct stream rather than with general waste.
What if it will not fit through the door?
We assess that at quote stage where you can tell us how it came in. Dismantling is usually the answer, and we would rather plan it than improvise.
Is this cheaper than a skip?
For one or two items, almost always — and there is no permit to apply for and nothing sitting on the street overnight.
House clearance
Whole houses and single rooms cleared — end-of-tenancy, probate, downsizing, or years of accumulated stuff in a back bedroom.
Flat & estate clearance
Upper-floor flats, walk-ups and estate blocks, carried down by hand where there is no lift and nowhere to park.
Garden waste clearance
Green waste, hedge cuttings, turf, soil, decking and the shed that finally gave up. Composted or recycled where it can be.
Office & commercial clearance
Studios, shops, offices and workshop units stripped out — desks, chairs, racking, partitioning and old IT.
Tell us what needs clearing.
What it is, which floor it is on, and where a van can stand. That is enough for a proper quote — and the quote is what you pay, not a starting point.
